The Mosaic Ensemble, representing musicians from the Chicago Classical Oriental Ensemble, performs
traditional instrumental music from the Arabic, Sephardic, Egyptian, Levantine, Turkish, and Armenian
repertoire. The group consists of Moroccan qanun player Hicham Chami (voted one of Chicago's "Best
Instrumentalist" by Chicago Magazine), Kim Sopata on flute and the Egyptian nay, Douglas Brush, Karim Nagi,
and Kalyan Patak on percussion, and Syrian Kinan Abou-afach on cello and 'ud. This ensemble has performed at
the Kennedy Center, the White House, for the United Nations, at Symphony Center, on two national tours with
the Chicago Classical Oriental Ensemble, and before HRH Queen Rania of Jordan. They are available for
concerts, lecture series, residencies, masterclasses, and special events. Standard ensemble is from 3-6
musicians, but soloists and duos can also be arranged for certain events.
